
William J. Sowerby
Bill Sowerby grew up in St. Clair Shores as one of five children. He attended St. Gertrude Elementary and Lake Shore High School, and graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Bill worked in the business community for 20 years prior to assuming the full-time role as Treasurer for Clinton Township.
Mr. Sowerby began his public service career in 1989 as a Macomb County Commissioner, where he represented Clinton Township residents until his election as their Treasurer in November of 1996. He is now serving his fourth term as Treasurer. In addition to treasury responsibilities, Mr. Sowerby sits on the Township Board of Trustees, represents Clinton Township on the Grosse Pointes-Clinton Refuse Disposal Authority Board, and serves as a Macomb County representative on the SMART Board. He has a 100% attendance record at Board of Trustees Meetings over his twelve-plus years as Treasurer.
Bill’s commitment to the community goes beyond his political duties. In 2000, he helped to establish the Annual Clinton Township Community Blood Drive, the largest community-wide effort in southeast Michigan, now in it's twelth year. He has served as its chair since its inception. Bill also acts as a local coordinator for Green Michigan, a non-profit organization that seeks to keep the environment a priority in our township and county.
Bill Sowerby is dedicated to the community that he resides in and serves. He believes that fiscal responsibility must go hand in hand with ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents and businesses in Clinton Township. His office is committed to responding to township residents in a timely and courteous manner, and to utilizing new technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy while keeping costs down. He makes every effort to be available to anyone with concerns or questions regarding the township, be they a resident, business owner or employee.
