Fire Stations

The need for adequate fire protection in Clinton Township was first recognized in the early 1940’s.  On May 2, 1945, the Township took delivery of its first fire truck and constructed a cinderblock garage behind the community’s original Township Hall at 1129 South Gratiot to house the truck.Original Fire Station 1 - 1945

During the 1960’s, a comprehensive master plan was developed for fire protection in Clinton Township through five fire stations.  With Station 1 already in existence, the Township moved forward with the construction of Station 2 (1968), located at 21250 15 Mile Road, and Station 3 (1969), located at 16720 Clinton River Road to serve the areas that were experiencing the most growth at that time.

In the 1980’s, the next step in the five-station plan materialized as the growth pattern up the northwestern corridor created the need for a fourth station.  Station 4 (Headquarters), located at 42601 Romeo Plank Road, opened in 1988.

In the years that followed, tremendous growth occurred in the northeast portion of the Township with the addition of residential, commercial and industrial developments.  The final step to the five-station master plan began with the purchase of property near Elizabeth and Dunham Roads in 1989.  In the fall of 2004, Station 5, housing the Donald Crews Training Center, began operation.  Response times to this area have been dramatically cut by the addition of Station 5.

Immediately following the opening of Station 5, work began on the property at 1129 South Gratiot to demolish and rebuild Station 1.  In the spring of 2005, the new Station 1, with a nostalgic design, was dedicated, with the original fire pole preserved in display area in the apparatus room.

Station #1

Station 1, constructed in 2005, is located between northbound and southbound Gratiot Avenue

at Harrington.  It serves the middle/eastern portions of our community.

Station #2

Station 2, located at 21250 Fifteen Mile Road is located in a predominantly residential area, just west of Gratiot Avenue.  Opened in 1968, this station serves the south portion of the Township. This station was renovated in 2007.

Station #3

Identical in design to Station 2, Station 3, located at Clinton River and Garfield Roads, was opened in 1969.  This station services the central and mid-western areas of the Township.  A water rescue unit and a rescue craft are housed here.  Station 3 was also remodeled in 2007.

Station #4

Station 4, opened in 1988, is located at 42601 Romeo Plank Road.  It serves the northwest portion of the Township.  Shortly after opening, the Fire Administration and Fire Communications Center were moved to this building.  When the Fire Prevention Division was established in 1989, it also located its offices here.

Station #5

Opened in 2004, Station 5 is located at 43800 Elizabeth Road, just north of Dunham Road.  The station houses the office of the Training Division, including the EMS Officer.  Special Operations equipment and vehicles are located here, as is the state-of-the art Donald Crews Training Center.  This station serves the northeast portion of the community.
