Board Meetings
George Fitzgerald

George Fitzgerald is one of the seven members of the Clinton Township Board of Trustees. He was first elected to the Board as a trustee in November 2000 and was re-elected trustee for another four year term in 2004. In November 2008, George was elected to serve as the Township Clerk for a four year term. Currently he is the Chair of the Communications Committee and Information Technology Committee, as well as an alternate on the Budget/Ways & Means Committee. He has served on the Housing Commission and has been an alternate for the Grosse Pointes-Clinton Refuse Authority.

Before his election to the Clinton Township Board, George served on the Chippewa Valley School Board for five years, and was President of the Board from 1997-98. He helped the Chippewa Valley Schools refinance and saved taxpayers over $61 million dollars. He also helped the Board settle union contracts and restored full days for students.

George is a volunteer member of the Macomb County Sheriff's Department Marine Division, and is a member of their Executive Board. He regularly patrols our waterways and provides search and rescue to boaters in distress. As a Certified Instructor, he teaches Boater Safety Classes to local citizens. Through his affiliation with the Sheriff's Department he actively supports the March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy, American Cancer Society and MADD.

George received a degree in Criminal Justice from Wayne State University and is President of a small, family owned business located in Macomb County. George and his wife Julie Ariganello-Fitzgerald are homeowners in Clinton Township and have two children, William and Amanda. They are members of St. Paul of Tarsus Church. Passports

Clinton Township Clerk, George Fitzgerald is pleased to announce that his office now accepts passport applications on behalf of the United States Department of State. U.S. citizens planning international travel may apply for their passports at the Clinton Township Clerk’s Office, 40700 Romeo Plank Road, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The fees that are charged are set by the federal government and are the same everywhere: $25 for processing the application and $75 for the adult passport. Applicants are required to bring two passport photos (obtainable at Kinko’s, local drugstores and AAA, among other locations), a sealed birth certificate (from the clerk’s office of the county of their birth), a driver’s license, and two checks. Please write one check payable to the U.S. Department of State for $75.00 and the other check payable to the Charter Township of Clinton for $25.00. Applications are available at the Clinton Township Clerk’s Office.

As a certified application acceptance agency, the Clerk’s Office forwards all materials to the Chicago U.S. Department of State office, from where the passport is issued to the applicant, a process that takes about six weeks.

Our staff is required to get trained and receive certification from the U.S. Department of State. This service makes the Civic Center even more of a one-stop shop for persons and we’re happy to offer that convenience. In addition, when people choose this Clerk’s Office to be the agency that processes their application, the $30 fee goes to the general fund, which will be a boost for the township’s budget.

Committee Guidelines

Policy Guidelines for Committee,
Commissions, and Board Appointments

1) All applications for appointment to boards, commission, and/or committees that the Board of Trustees shall have authority to make shall be submitted to all board members and voted upon by the board. By State Statute, the Planning Commission and the Downtown Development Authority Members are appointed by the Township Supervisor with the Township Board of Trustees approval.

2) Sixty days prior to any committee expiration date, a notice of the intended vacancy will be posted by the Administrative Aide on our cable channel, township bulletin boards and on our web site. Board members will be advised as well.

3) Interested individuals will be directed to complete an Application for Appointment which can be downloaded off the web site or obtained from the Clerk's or Trustee's Offices. Those wishing to be re-appointed will also be required to complete an Application for Appointment.

4) All applications will be submitted to the Clerk's Office no later than two weeks prior to the date of voting thereon. (As agenda items, ten days prior to the meeting). The cut-off date will be specified on each posting.

5) All applications received by the Clerk's Office will be turned over to the Administrative Aide for dissemination to all board members. A letter will likewise be prepared placing the appointment(s) on the board agenda.

6) In the event a term is vacated due to resignation, the same process will be followed once notification of said resignation has been received in the Trustees Office.

7) Committee appointments that fall to the Township Supervisor by statute or committee by-laws will also be posted as a courtesy to all.

8) The Administrative Aide will coordinate and oversee the process maintaining all records on committee appointments.
