HISTORY AND PURPOSE OF THE CLINTON TOWNSHIP EMPLOYEES CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION

The Employees Civil Service Commission is the hiring conduit for the Charter Township of Clinton. The Commission was established in 1970 by vote of the electorate to adopt the Michigan State statue authorizing townships to enact Civil Service Systems. The purpose of the Employees Civil Service Commission is to implement rules and regulations covering all personnel transactions and conditions of employment in such a manner as to relieve elected officials from constituency requests for assistance in securing Township employment, as well as to provide employees freedom from political pressures. These rules and regulations are subject to revision by the Employees Civil Service Commission, as changing times and conditions dictate, in addition to supplemented by reasonable request of the Township Board, appointing authorities and applicable State and Federal law.

HIRING PROCESS

Vacancies and promotions are filled by competitive examinations administered by the Employees Civil Service Commission. Normally, external applicants are hired only when a vacancy cannot be filled by an internal candidate. The Employees Civil Service Commission accepts employment applications at all times, regardless of whether or not vacant positions exist. Job applicants are encouraged to indicate areas of interest, special skills, certifications or licenses on their applications. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Job applications are kept on file for one (1) year after receipt and may be renewed and extended for additional one (1) year period by request to the Employees Civil Service Commission. The Charter Township of Clinton is an equal opportunity employer.
